The Nightingale: Book Review

So since I told you I had gotten a lot of new books for Christmas over the past week I have finished my first book, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. This is an absolutely wonderful book, it take place during WWII in Paris and Carriveau France. The two main characters are sisters, one is stubborn, and does what she wants, while the other is more cautious and cares for her family. Each one has her opinions and that is what makes them special, the best part is if you can't relate and understand the perspective of one of the sisters' you will surly agree with and relate to the other.

Over the course of the book Kristin kept a strong, never want to take a break stamina the whole time. I loved the way she switches points of view from one sister to the other so you know exactly what is going on in both of their lives, the other great thing about that is that you can know when their paths will cross again before the other sibling does. Predicting their reactions and trying to figure out how the other will react is a great part of how you connect to the characters.

One thing that is very important about this book is that all the events it is based off of actually happened, since this book is based in WWII there are ups and downs, most especially is that the things that happen in this book are true and happened to lots of people. The death, the separation of Jew, Communists, Free Masons, Homosexuals actually took place. People got sent to concentration camps, works camps that were almost as bad if not worse than death. Then there was everyone else who didn't get sent there, if they helped people to escape or helped the enemies of the Germans they could get killed them selves. So this book is a great read, but anyone who reads this book has to understand that these things happened to innocent people, and that should not be taken lightly.

Over all I'm glad I have received this book, it has opened my eyes to the struggles of anyone and everyone during World War 2, it also showed me the important roles women played in the fight against the Nazis. If not for the brave women out there who risked their lives for what they believed in the war most likely would have ended very differently, especially if the Americans had not joined the fight.
